This Ratio Calculator helps you work with ratios in everyday situations: simplifying ratios in math problems, splitting totals according to a given ratio, solving proportions, keeping the same aspect ratio for images and screens, mixing in fixed ratios, and interpreting map scales.

1. Simplify and Convert Ratios

In the Simplify & Convert tab, enter two values a and b. The calculator finds the greatest common divisor (GCD) and reduces the ratio a:b to its simplest form. It also shows the fraction a ÷ b, its decimal value, and the percentage a ÷ b × 100.

2. Part–Part–Whole Splits

The Part–Part–Whole tab lets you split a total into several parts based on a ratio like 2:3:5. The sum of the ratio parts is used as the base, and each part receives:

Part Value = Total × (Part / Sum of All Parts)

3. Proportion Solver (A : B = C : D)

Proportions express that two ratios are equal. The Proportion tab assumes:

A : B = C : D

If you know any three of A, B, C, and D, the calculator solves for the missing value using simple cross-multiplication.

4. Aspect Ratios for Screens and Images

Aspect ratios describe width:height. The Aspect Ratio tab simplifies the ratio width:height and preserves it when you provide either a new width or a new height:

New Height = New Width × (Original Height ÷ Original Width)

or

New Width = New Height × (Original Width ÷ Original Height)

5. Mixing Ratios

The Mixing tab is useful for recipes, chemicals, and paints. For a ratio like 1:4 and a known amount of one component, the other component and the total mixture are computed by scaling both parts by the same factor.

6. Scale and Map Ratios

Scale ratios relate measurements on a drawing or map to real-world distances. A scale of 1:50,000 means that 1 unit on the map equals 50,000 units in reality. The Scale tab converts between map distance and real distance using:

Map Distance ÷ Real Distance = Map Scale ÷ Real Scale
