BMI is a screening tool and does not directly measure body fat or health. Always discuss results with a healthcare professional.

Centimeters
Kilograms

This calculator uses the standard “normal BMI” range (18.5–24.9) to estimate an approximate ideal weight range.

Body fat is estimated using the U.S. Navy circumference method and is only an approximation.

Waist-to-height ratio is a simple indicator of abdominal fat and cardiometabolic risk.

Weeks

Healthy weight loss is often around 0.25–1 kg per week. Always consult a healthcare professional before starting a weight loss plan.

Overweight Calculator – BMI, Ideal Weight, Body Fat & Waist-to-Height

This Overweight Calculator combines several simple screening tools to help you understand whether your current weight may be in the underweight, normal, overweight, or obese range. It does not replace medical advice, but it can give you a clearer picture of where you stand and what a healthier range might look like.

What This Overweight Calculator Includes

  • BMI Calculator: Estimates your body mass index and classifies it as underweight, normal, overweight, or obese.
  • Ideal Weight: Uses the standard “normal BMI” range (18.5–24.9) to estimate an approximate ideal weight range for your height.
  • Body Fat Percentage: Uses the U.S. Navy method to estimate your body fat level from circumference measurements.
  • Waist-to-Height Ratio: Checks your abdominal fat distribution using your waist relative to your height.
  • Weight Loss Target: Helps you plan how much weight you may need to lose to reach a target BMI over a chosen timeframe.

BMI Formula

BMI is calculated using height and weight:

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ [height (m)]²

For example, if you weigh 75 kg and your height is 1.70 m, your BMI is roughly 25.9. BMI is widely used as a simple population-level indicator, but it does not directly measure body fat or account for differences in muscle mass or body type.

Typical Adult BMI Categories

  • Underweight: BMI < 18.5
  • Normal weight: BMI 18.5–24.9
  • Overweight: BMI 25.0–29.9
  • Obese: BMI ≥ 30.0

Ideal Weight and Overweight Status

The “Ideal Weight” view uses your height to estimate the weight range that corresponds to a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9, and then highlights the midpoint of that range as a simple reference. The difference between your current weight and this midpoint gives a rough idea of how far you are above or below a central “normal” value.

Body Fat Percentage Estimate

Body fat percentage offers a more direct indication of body composition. This calculator uses the U.S. Navy method based on height, neck, waist, and hip measurements. The result is an estimate and should not be treated as a clinical measurement.

Waist-to-Height Ratio

Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) focuses on central fat stored around the abdomen. A higher ratio is associated with a higher risk of metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Many guidelines suggest aiming for a WHtR below about 0.5 as a simple rule of thumb, although exact cutoffs can differ between populations and guidelines.

Weight Loss Target Planning

The weight loss target tool shows how much weight you might need to lose to reach your chosen target BMI, and how much that would average out to per week over your chosen timeframe. This is only a mathematical projection and does not account for individual health conditions, diet, or exercise plans.

Always discuss any major weight changes or health goals with your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional. This calculator is for educational and informational purposes only.
